Proverbs 20:9-11 (ESV)

Who can say, “I have made my heart pure;

I am clean from my sin”?

10 Unequal weights and unequal measures

are both alike an abomination to the Lord.

11 Even a child makes himself known by his acts,

by whether his conduct is pure and upright.

The wise realize that no human is able to live according to God’s holy standard of behavior. No one is good. Although some may be better than others, no one is pure before our perfect God. The Lord demands honesty. Those who use unequal weights and measures deceive others. Ultimately, when we defraud each other, we attempt to deceive God, but that’s not going to happen. When we look at children for any length of time, it becomes evident that all are born with a corrupt nature. We teach and train our children to do justly, to love mercy, and to live humbly before God, but left to themselves, our children, like us, are self- absorbed. If you believe that you can make yourself good enough for God, you are wrong. If you have never done so, humble yourself before the Almighty today, casting yourself upon his mercy and trusting in the provision he made for you in the work of Christ on the cross.
