Proverbs 6:6-8 (ESV)

Go to the ant, O sluggard;

consider her ways, and be wise.

Without having any chief,

officer, or ruler,

she prepares her bread in summer

and gathers her food in harvest.

Now the father addresses the sluggard or the lazy person. He is to pay attention to the ant, who labors to store her grain within her nest. Even though no leader stands over her to dictate deadlines and enforce a standard of excellence, she works diligently. Using her God-given sense of wisdom, she prepares for the future. The ant realizes when it is harvest time, and she doesn’t waste a moment. She does all she can to store up for the coming months so that she will lack nothing during the winter. Has God given you the ability to work or to serve him today? If so, don’t waste your window of time. Like the ant, we are to make the most of every opportunity because we don’t know what tomorrow holds. Don’t procrastinate by dragging today’s duties onto tomorrow’s to-do list. Thank God for the gift of work, and get to it.
