Proverbs 31:29-31 (ESV)

29 “Many women have done excellently,

but you surpass them all.”

30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,

but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,

and let her works praise her in the gates.

The husband declares with confidence that she is the most excellent of all women. This poem, defining the valiant wife or woman, uses the language of heroic poetry. Beauty lasts a short period of time, and it always promises far more than it delivers. Although it is important to invest in our appearance, managing the bodies God has entrusted us with and satisfying our husbands sexually, beauty is nevertheless fleeting. The key to the excellent wife’s success is her fear of the Lord. Her life’s work, the fruit of her hands, leave a legacy like that of a victorious warrior, who diligently and courageously risks her own well being in order to benefit the circumstances of those around her. She lives fearlessly, trusting in God over men, knowing that the Lord will accomplish all that he intends through her obedient choices. Decide to become a woman God chooses to use for his glory and the good of others today.
