Proverbs 21:30-31 (ESV)

30 No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel

can avail against the Lord.

31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle,

but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Even the best human wisdom, understanding, and advice cannot stand against the will of the Lord. No man or woman can contend with the omniscience and omnipotence of God. Men may employ horses or whatever other means they rely on for power and might, but in the end, even the most deadly of human weapons falls like dust before the Almighty. Although the ungodly may live in defiance of the Lord and reject his authority, none can escape his sovereign control. It was common in the ancient near east to put one’s confidence in the size of his army. But no army will ever prevail against God’s predetermined plan. In what are you tempted to put your confidence? Is it your bank account, your health and beauty, your intelligence, your family, or your friends? None of these things can save you in the end. All can and will be taken as the Lord wills.
