Proverbs 23:27-28 (ESV)
27 For a prostitute is a deep pit;
an adulteress is a narrow well.
28 She lies in wait like a robber
and increases the traitors among mankind.
Saying 18 continues with the righteous son who must place his eyes and his heart in the hands of his father’s wise counsel, ultimately entrusting his desires to the authority of the Lord and his word. The immoral woman is on the prowl for any who may be willing to veer from the path of righteousness, and so the son must choose to trust his father’s wisdom when confronted with sinful passion. The corrupt woman uses flattery and seductive words to snare her naïve victim into her bed. He doesn’t realize that she is manipulating his emotions to fulfill her selfish desires. His passions may conflict with God’s wisdom, and if he falls into her trap, there is no escape. It is the same for those who indulge in anything outside of God’s parameters for human behavior. Before you step ahead into the next relationship, ask God to show you the cost involved. Your soul will suffer the consequences of your foolish choices.
