Proverbs 21:27-29 (ESV)
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination;
how much more when he brings it with evil intent.
28 A false witness will perish,
but the word of a man who hears will endure.
29 A wicked man puts on a bold face,
but the upright gives thought to his ways.
God refuses the one who brings him a sacrifice and yet has never done as he commands by turning from sin and trusting in his provision. Even more so, God rejects the one who uses his name for selfish reasons. The one who gives false testimony will face God’s judgment, but the word of the honest witness will endure. The wicked woman becomes shameless in her efforts to deceive. She reaches the point of brazen manipulation of others.The righteous one considers her own actions and motives. Sadly, there will always be those among God’s people who appear with us, yet are inwardly using the Lord and his followers for personal gain. These wicked people view the members of the church as potential dollar signs, and seek to gain a reputation for godliness in order to prey upon the good graces of others. Avoid these people the same way God does.
