Proverbs 26:17-19 (ESV)
17 Whoever meddles in a quarrel not his own
is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears.
18 Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death
19 is the man who deceives his neighbor
and says, “I am only joking!”
Every community has its resident busybody. She’s the woman who just can’t seem to mind her own business, but instead meddles in the affairs of others. The busybody is as foolish as the person who grabs a wild dog by its sensitive ears, risking serious injury. Another stupid person is the one who enjoys watching others experience harm, only to brush it off as a joke. The insensitive person fails to distinguish between what is funny and what is foolish. Although she appears surprised at the suffering that results from her prank, she knew the risk involved. Her problem stems from her lack of compassion for others. If a dispute doesn’t involve you, stay out of it. Mind your own business. There are many productive things you could be doing with your time. Choose to focus today on things that build up rather than tear down.
