Proverbs 26:15-16 (ESV)

15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;

it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth.

16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes

than seven men who can answer sensibly.

Although the sluggard has access to food, it’s too much for her to bring it up to her mouth, so she doesn’t eat.The thought of working just wears her out. She sits and does nothing, becoming totally deluded. She believes she has more sense than seven advisors with a proven and wise track record. You may think this doesn’t apply to you at all, but don’t be quick to dismiss the insight here. Are there areas of your life where the Scripture exhorts you to a certain behavior, the Spirit convicts your heart, your godly friends give you similar advice, and yet you don’t do or not do what you are called to? Maybe you are the spiritual sluggard who thinks she’s going to come to God on her own terms rather than his. What about your spiritual disciplines? Do you know you should pray, but it’s too hard? Listen to wisdom and turn from spiritual laziness today.
