Proverbs 25:6-7 (ESV)
6 Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence
or stand in the place of the great,
7 for it is better to be told, “Come up here,”
than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.
It is unwise for those under the king’s authority to force entry into his inner circle or attempt to reason with the members of his council. The one who pushes to the top often views her ideas and contributions as having more value than they actually do. Instead, the woman who seeks a position of increased influence should wait for her superiors to ask her to join in on their discussions, or she risks being asked to leave. When she’s asked to step down, she faces personal humiliation as it becomes evident to all that she isn’t as sharp as she believes herself to be. The prudent woman will faithfully and patiently wait for promotion rather than shoving to the front of the line. Well- informed, forward-thinking, and faithful servants will be promoted when the time is right. Make sure you keep an accurate view of your abilities, while loyally performing the role you’ve been entrusted with today.
