Proverbs 27:1-2 (ESV)
1 Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.
2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth;
a stranger, and not your own lips.
It is pleasant to others and pleasing to the Lord when we are humble.We often agree that we don’t know what the future holds, but we can forget that the future is as near as the next time the sun rises. None of us knows what will happen tomorrow. God alone is omniscient, or all knowing, and he doesn’t share that attribute with any created being. It is wise to make plans for the future, but we must always keep in mind that God is the one who allows those plans to prosper. God also retains the right to thwart our agendas whenever he sees fit. Those who praise themselves are at odds with the Lord and with their community. No one enjoys the company of a prideful and arrogant person. In fact, the real friend is the one who brings praise and encouragement to those she loves. Be a good friend today by drawing attention to others rather than yourself.
