Proverbs 29:10-11 (ESV)

10 Bloodthirsty men hate one who is blameless

and seek the life of the upright.

11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit,

but a wise man quietly holds it back.

Wicked fools can’t stand the honesty of godly men and women. Determined to prohibit the righteous from interfering with their schemes, the hatred of some is quelled only when the upright are eliminated, even murdered. The fool openly vents his anger. When he is mad, all will know it. The wise woman remains composed when provoked, refraining from ranting and retaliating. She trusts in the goodness and the sovereignty of the Lord, and her inner spirit remains at peace. Even though circumstances may rage around her like the tumultuous sea, she is calm and even- keeled, confident that God allows only what’s best for her soul. She keeps her feelings in check, continually considering how her reaction to the day’s events will impact those around her. Are your emotions controlling you? If so, ask the Lord to help you to calm down, keeping your heart and mind focused on the things he values.
