Proverbs 28:25-28 (ESV)
25 A greedy man stirs up strife,
but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.
26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool,
but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
27 Whoever gives to the poor will not want,
but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.
28 When the wicked rise, people hide themselves,
but when they perish, the righteous increase.
The one who trusts in the Lord, working hard while remaining content, will be blessed. This is the woman who follows after the wisdom of the Lord, obeying him and trusting in his word. The woman who is determined to live for herself, doing what she feels and ignoring the counsel of the Lord, will finish the book of her life with pages steeped in regret. Our confidence in God is revealed by the way we deal with the resources he has entrusted to us. Are we stingy, hoarding what we have and clamoring for more, or do we open our hands to others and share what God has graced us with? God supports the kind and compassionate woman. When wickedness reigns, people hide, but when the righteous prevail, goodness and mercy flourish and God is exalted. The greedy woman is never satisfied. She misses the joy in what she has because she’s always grumbling about what she wants.
