Proverbs 28:19-21 (ESV)
19 Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
20 A faithful man will abound with blessings,
but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.
21 To show partiality is not good,
but for a piece of bread a man will do wrong.
The person who earns a living through honest and faithful labor will have all she needs, while the one who chases after “get rich quick” schemes and manipulative ways to defraud others of their money ends up with nothing. God will punish the woman who schemes to grab a quick dollar, often by capitalizing upon the kindness of others. Some gain resources by showing partiality or ruling favorably on another’s behalf when bribed, even perverting justice for as little as one meal. We will continually face offers of fast money and ways to strike it rich without hard work. These proposals usually attempt to capitalize our desire to spend more time with our families and less at work. But God honors the traditional way of making money. Compromise for financial gain never pays off in the end. Walk away from schemes that require little and promise big.
