Proverbs 27:18-19 (ESV)

17 Iron sharpens iron,

and one man sharpens another.

18 Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,

and he who guards his master will be honored.

19 As in water face reflects face,

so the heart of man reflects the man.

A knife or sword is sharpened when it is rubbed against another piece of metal. In the same way, when two good and godly friends dialogue, they sharpen one another using words, and they are both refined as a result. It takes faithfulness to nurture a fig tree, but its fruit is sweet in the end. The one who works diligently at her job will be rewarded as well.We see our faces reflected when we look in a mirror or in a still pool of water, and we see the condition of our hearts when we look at our actions. What we do reveals who we are. A friend who is as hard as iron is a true friend. She won’t bend and be dishonest when she sees compromise in your life, and she won’t give up on your relationship either. Make sure you are hanging out with people who make you better rather than bring you down.
