Proverbs 18:17-19 (ESV)
17 The one who states his case first seems right,
until the other comes and examines him.
18 The lot puts an end to quarrels
and decides between powerful contenders.
19 A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city,
and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.
For genuine justice to be dispensed, both parties in a case must be heard. Although one may passionately insist she is in the right, there are always two sides to every story. The unfair judge rules in one direction before giving full weight to all persons involved. In most quarrels, both sides are somewhat to blame. In the end, God knows who is at fault. Those who are at odds with one another often live as if a castle wall divided them, foolishly allowing their need to be right to fuel their personal wars. But women who trust in the Lord cease from fighting, confident that the same God who showers his people with mercy will make things right in the end. With whom are you at odds? Nothing is more comical to the watching world than brawls between believers. For the sake of the gospel, get over your petty disputes today.
