Proverbs 2:6-8
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
God spoke through Solomon to all God’s children. When we become students of wisdom, the Lord gives us wisdom. Listening to and applying wisdom protects the obedient disciple like a shield protects a warrior. When they put God’s instructions into practice, wisdom keeps God’s children safe from destruction. The Lord himself is a shield for his saints. He watches over their ways, preserving them in a crooked and dark world. To “watch over” implies the idea of guarding and nurturing. God ensures the spiritual safety of those who belong to him. He is intimately involved with every detail of his people’s lives, and nothing catches him by surprise. Are you feeling troubled or insecure today? If you know the Lord, you do not need to fear. You are in his hand and under his wing, the safest place in the universe.
