Proverbs 31:21-23 (ESV)
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
Because she has worked to provide the best supplies for her family, including wool clothes for the winter months, she isn’t afraid of the coming cold. Although the approaching harsh months of winter generated fear and anxiety in the unprepared, she is calm and at ease, realizing that those under her care have what’s necessary to endure the severe months ahead. Scarlet or crimson wool represented expensive fabrics, and purple dye was quite costly, so it was considered a luxury to enjoy these fabrics. Although she is continually busy, meeting the needs of others, she makes herself look good for her husband. When her husband comes home, he doesn’t worry about picking up where she left off. Her man has time to engage in the affairs of the people. Do you empower others to do what they normally couldn’t? Or do you squeeze every minute out of your spouse, so that he’s got nothing left to give to the Lord?
