Proverbs 30:27-28 (ESV)
27 the locusts have no king,
yet all of them march in rank;
28 the lizard you can take in your hands,
yet it is in kings’ palaces.
Agur continues his list with the third and fourth of God’s creatures that live wisely despite their insignificant size. The locusts work together as a group, demonstrating the power found in numbers. Although these insects have no official leader, when banded together as a unit, their force is unstoppable.The small wall lizard can be found crawling throughout homes in Israel. Human hands readily snatch it up, but when the lizard makes good choices, it can survive even in the king’s palace.The one who lives uprightly can also enjoy the benefits of this life, though vulnerable, by living wisely. Like the locusts, Christians have no supreme earthly leader and yet are all united under the same God and Father. If we determine to overlook our differences, joining with one another to fight darkness rather than bickering among ourselves, we can make a tremendous difference for the kingdom of Christ on this planet.
