15 The leech has two daughters:

Give and Give.

Three things are never satisfied;

four never say, “Enough”:

16 Sheol, the barren womb,

the land never satisfied with water,

and the fire that never says, “Enough.”

Ancient documents contain warnings about the dangers of the horseleech. This parasite lived in stagnant waters, and when a horse drank, the leech moved inside the animal’s nostrils. The leech possessed sucking organs on both ends of its body; with one side it attached itself, and with the other, it drew blood. The leech’s sucking organs are the daughters, Give and Give. In the same way, the greedy person sucks the life and resources from her community. Four things are never full or satisfied: the grave, which continually takes life; the barren womb, which longs for a child; the land, which craves rain; and fire, which loves to destroy. The grave and fire both consume life, while the womb and the land produce life. The struggle between life and death on this planet will continue until the Lord brings all to a close. Don’t cater to greedy people, as they will never be satisfied.
