Proverbs 30:10-12 (ESV)
10 Do not slander a servant to his master,
lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.
11 There are those who curse their fathers
and do not bless their mothers.
12 There are those who are clean in their own eyes
but are not washed of their filth.
It is unwise to meddle in the affairs of others. If you speak falsely about someone else’s family member, trying to elevate your own reputation, you will suffer. Disrespectful children bring much grief to their families, and not to bless your mother, or to curse your father, are unreasonably cruel behaviors. Some believe they are pure before the Lord, without need of repentance and faith in Christ. They see the world through their own ethical lens. The things they practice are right, and the things they don’t practice are wrong. Even if they concede that God is holy and just, they excuse the sinful practices they embrace as negotiable to the Lord. They are convinced that if God exists, he will end up accepting them into his kingdom because they are relatively good. Don’t be deceived. Make sure you come to God on his terms and not your own.
