Proverbs 21:16-18 (ESV)
16 One who wanders from the way of good sense
will rest in the assembly of the dead.
17 Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man;
he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous,
and the traitor for the upright.
Those who turn from wisdom, thinking they can find an easier path, will end up rejected by God. Ironically, in their attempt to gain worldly rest they forfeit eternal rest. If a woman compromises truth to obtain satisfaction, she should recognize that the price tag associated with the temporary pleasures of this life is too high. The one who longs for enjoyment now engulfed in the present age will discover that she missed opportunities to lay up an eternal reward. Wine and oil represent the good life.Wine is associated with feasting and enjoying wonderful foods, and oil is refreshing and medicinal to the body.There is nothing wrong with treasuring the blessings God has graced us with, but when we make the blessings our priority, we miss out on God’s design. Appreciate all that God has given you today, but be sure to enjoy your relationship with him even more.
