Proverbs 21:11-12 (ESV)

11 When a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise;

when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.

12 The Righteous One observes the house of the wicked;

he throws the wicked down to ruin.

The mocker learns that when she disobeys God and his commands, she experiences his discipline, and in time she can actually become wise, making better choices. Once she acquires wisdom, she habitually listens to and applies godly advice to her thinking and actions. She realizes that there is great benefit in obeying the Lord. His commandments are a blessing and not a burden. God is aware of every action and every thought of every person. He is the Righteous One and will overthrow the wicked, ultimately removing them from his presence. Where would you be found with respect to wisdom today? Are you the scoffer who resists the revealed word of God, thinking that your way is better than his? Or are you wise, recognizing that the Lord has given us his law to keep us from a life of regrets? The wise woman eagerly anticipates every opportunity to align her life with God’s design for human behavior.
