Proverbs 27:12-14 (ESV)
12 The prudent sees danger and hides himself,
but the simple go on and suffer for it.
13 Take a man’s garment when he has put up security for a stranger,
and hold it in pledge when he puts up security for an adulteress.
14 Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice,
rising early in the morning,
will be counted as cursing.
The one who is wise thinks about the potential of financial bondage. When an opportunity to enter into a financial contract arises, this person carefully considers the long-term problems associated with any monetary arrangement, and walks away from unwise transactions. The fool signs on the dotted line, thinking she can agree now and deal with it later. Some carelessly agree to put up money for the man who is borrowing to pay the adulteress. Then both parties are enslaved. The wise son will flee from both the lender and the debtor. The neighbor who makes a fuss over blessing and praising another neighbor, even drawing much attention to his exaggerated words, boasting early and loudly, will become a curse. Others may miss the hypocrisy of her actions, but not the Lord. By drawing attention to her neighbor, she truly seeks to draw attention to herself.True friendship is manifested in actions rather than words.
