Proverbs 28:12-14 (ESV)

12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory,

but when the wicked rise, people hide themselves.

13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,

but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

14 Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always,

but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

When those who rule the land are righteous, the people live openly and freely. When wicked leadership oppresses the land, the people live in fear, continually suspicious and even hiding from one another. The one who covers up her own sin will not be successful, but the one who confesses her wrongdoing to God will find the favor of the Lord. Instead of trying to bury your sin to hide your transgressions from the all-seeing and all-knowing God, admit your guilt. Then ask God to help you finish the process of confession by turning from your wicked ways and choosing to live consistently with his design. The one who fears the Lord, trembling at the thought of displeasing him, will be blessed, while the defiant and stubborn person will fall in defeat. If you want to be happy tomorrow, then be afraid of offending God today.
