Proverbs 28:10-11 (ESV)

10 Whoever misleads the upright into an evil way

will fall into his own pit,

but the blameless will have a goodly inheritance.

11 A rich man is wise in his own eyes,

but a poor man who has understanding will find him out.

Because evil people desire to bring others down into darkness with them, they seek to deceive the righteous into participating in wicked behavior. Those who walk uprightly before the Lord see through the manipulation and boasting of the wealthy man steeped in pride. Although he may have little in this life, the godly poor person has insight into the schemes of the deceptive. Thus, one may lack treasure on earth but be rich in heavenly wisdom and reward. The Scripture teaches that even the godly are capable of sinning. We must guard our hearts against evil behavior by fixing our minds on God’s law and seeking the help of his Spirit to strengthen us to continue in the right way. It also helps to get a couple of Christ-honoring friends to come alongside you in your battle with sinful desires. Choose to elevate God’s will above your own today.
