Proverbs 28:4-5 (ESV)

Those who forsake the law praise the wicked,

but those who keep the law strive against them.

Evil men do not understand justice,

but those who seek the Lord understand it completely.

People who reject the Lord’s wisdom, living their own way instead of submitting to God’s desires, give approval to others who also turn from righteousness. Those who love the Lord resist the desire to embrace wickedness. Because the unrighteous deeds of sinners have separated them from the Lord, they aren’t able to discern what is morally upright. On the other hand, those who turn to Jesus and repent of their evil behaviors are internally changed, and God places his law upon their hearts. We have all experienced peer pressure. Those we live and work among engage in activities contrary to what the Scripture teaches, and they push us to practice those behaviors with them. Though it is difficult, God’s people must resist compromise. Whom you hang out with reveals what you are really like. Promote your own righteous behavior today by choosing friends who seek to be righteous as well.
