Proverbs 27:25-27 (ESV)
25 When the grass is gone and the new growth appears
and the vegetation of the mountains is gathered,
26 the lambs will provide your clothing,
and the goats the price of a field.
27 There will be enough goats’ milk for your food,
for the food of your household
and maintenance for your girls.
The wise man keeps an eye on the affairs of his estate, working diligently to ensure his flocks are well cared for. When the grass that feeds the flocks dries up, the Lord will cause new growth to appear again. Just as God is faithful to provide for his creation, those entrusted to manage the earth must respond to his goodness with wise administration. Proper care of the flocks results in financial reward, and the upright family increases in wealth and influence. The well- tended flocks will provide for the family and even the servants, who in turn care for the flocks. Those who respond rightly to God’s created order are blessed. By working within the parameters the Lord has established for his creation, harmony is established. We must not grow weary of working hard, faithfully managing the treasure and talent God has entrusted us with, while humbly acknowledging his good hand in all that we have been given.
