Proverbs 12:1-3 (ESV)
1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but he who hates reproof is stupid.
2 A good man obtains favor from the Lord,
but a man of evil devices he condemns.
3 No one is established by wickedness,
but the root of the righteous will never be moved.
The person who embraces teaching and training is wise. The one who turns from correction is dumb. In her ignorance, she behaves more like an animal than a human, going with whatever “feels” right or whatever her sinful nature “wants” to do, rather than God’s desire. God blesses the one who seeks to live according to his standards, and he judges those who reject his laws. The one who is right with the Lord will never be shaken. She will bear fruit, and her fruit will remain. How do you respond to the Lord’s correction? When you learn that your behavior is inconsistent with his design, do you align your attitudes and actions with his will? Are you rationalizing and making excuses for a particular area of sin? The wise woman admits that she needs help, and when her errors are revealed, she leans on Jesus, asking him to enable her to get things right.
