Proverbs 6:25-27 (ESV)

25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart,

and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;

26 for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread,

but a married woman hunts down a precious life.

27 Can a man carry fire next to his chest

and his clothes not be burned?

The admonition to keep the son from sexual sin
continues.The adulteress uses her physical beauty to control her victims. She may be externally gorgeous, but God values inward beauty, and the son must resist the temptation to succumb to forbidden love because of outward appearance. Though a prostitute may only cost a few dollars, the price of violating the marriage oath carries a massive price tag. So is God validating the prostitute here? No! Instead, he is highlighting the exorbitant cost of adultery.The temporary pleasure is in no way worth what will be lost as a result. Many may feel their marriages have become stale and so may allow themselves to be attracted, even “just” emotionally, to someone other than their spouse.They believe that the “grass is greener” on the other side.This just isn’t true. In fact, the grass is greener where it is watered the most. Invest in your own marriage today.
