Proverbs 18:1-2 (ESV)
1 Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion.
The fool separates herself from others. She loves to indulge in selfish desires and doesn’t want anyone telling her what to do. It is unwise and ungodly to remove yourself from the influence of your family, friends, and church. Isolation leads to unreasonable attitudes. The fool has no desire to discern between wrong and right behavior. She goes with what she feels like doing. Although she continually expresses her thoughts and opinions, she isn’t interested in advice. She thinks she is right and everyone else is wrong. The fool believes she is truly different and can play by her own rules. But the day will come when she stands before the throne of God only to discover that she isn’t all that unique. Her disobedience will sentence her to the place of ultimate isolation with weeping and gnashing of teeth. Don’t hide today. Instead, get up, get out, and make things right with God and with others.
