Proverbs 3:11-12 (ESV)

11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline

or be weary of his reproof,

12 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,

as a father the son in whom he delights.

God uses discipline to correct his people. The point of the discipline is to deliver from foolishness,so correction should be embraced and not rejected. In fact, discipline is actually a sign of God’s love and mercy. Just like a parent disciplines her children, the Lord disciplines those who belong to him. In fact, it’s been said that to reject the discipline of the Lord is to reject his love. The caring father desires that his son experience the benefits of living according to wisdom, and he will do what he can to help his son get on and stay on the right path. Are you experiencing the discipline of the Lord? If so, change your attitude and actions and resolve to do things his way. Not all pain is the result of discipline, but when it is, the quicker we respond to the correction of the Lord, the quicker the “spanking” stops.
