Proverbs 3:7-10 (ESV)
7 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
10 then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.
God calls us to trust in his word rather than our own wisdom or cleverness. A healthy respect for the Lord causes us to steer clear of evil. We can forget that sin affects both our souls and our bodies. Spiritual and physical refreshment are the fruits of godly living, and those who are right with the Lord are emotionally healthy. Out of devotion to God, those who love him will offer to him their best. They give liberally from their finances, their time and their affections. God always outdoes those who are generous with him and causes them to prosper by providing all that is necessary and more. Do you give to God from your best? Do you long for daily time with him and anticipate opportunities to honor him and serve him by investing in your church? If not, ask the Lord to grace you with passion for him and for the people he loves.
