Proverbs 2:15-16 (ESV)

15 men whose paths are crooked,

and who are devious in their ways.

16 So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman,

from the adulteress with her smooth words,

Men who seek to persuade the son away from wisdom are on crooked paths. Their practices deviate from the ways of the righteous, and self is the driving force behind all they do. The father alerts his son regarding the forbidden woman. Her flattering words long to deceive him, but wisdom will keep him from her trap. Her words are smooth. They promise pleasure and satisfaction, but their end is destruction. Our culture applauds sex outside of marriage and even pities those who submit their desires to God’s law, but the Lord’s standards provide us with protection. God authored sex, and he knows how to control its beautiful power in a way that honors him and the participants. Physical intimacy belongs to those who have entered into the covenant of marriage. If your guy isn’t ready to be your husband, he’s not ready to have your body. God is concerned with who you are and what you do.
