6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
God spoke through Solomon to his son and to all of Israel. Because the student pursued wisdom, the Lord gave it to him. Listening to and applying wisdom protects the one who obeys like a shield protects a warrior. When God’s instructions are put into practice, his children are kept safe from destruction. In fact, the Lord himself is a shield for his saints. He watches over their ways, preserving them in the midst of a crooked and dark world. “To watch over” includes guarding and nurturing. God ensures the spiritual safety of those who belong to him. How amazing to think that God is intimately involved with every detail in the lives of his people. Nothing catches him by surprise. Are you feeling troubled or insecure today? If you know the Lord, you have no need to fear. You are in the safest place in the universe.
