Proverbs 2:3-5 (ESV)
3 yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
The exhortation moves from the passive, or what the son should hear, to the active, or what the son should pursue. The learner must call out and raise his voice for wisdom. And if he does, seeking wisdom like gold, or silver, or something worth a lot of money, he will be paid well. Those who ignore wisdom will face judgment, but those who seek wisdom will be blessed. The son will understand the fear of the Lord. The Scriptures teach that those who lack wisdom should ask for it from God. He promises to enlighten all who cry out for wisdom in faith. How intensely do you beg the Lord for insight? Do you seek good advice as intently as you would a lost cell phone or a lost wedding ring? God promises that those who turn to him, longing for and looking for wisdom, will be rewarded.
