Proverbs 2:1-2 (ESV)
1 My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
The father began another address to his son and instructed him to prize the commandments. Since all wisdom comes from God, the commands of wisdom are actually the commands of God. Solomon, the father, was given the honor of building God’s temple. The Ten Commandments were stored in the Ark of the Covenant, housed deep within the temple in the Most Holy Place. So Solomon said his son should be like the temple and hide the commands of the Lord within his own heart. We all protect and safely keep the things we treasure most. The son was to keep the word of God safe within himself. Do you read through the Bible quickly, just to check the box and say, “It’s done!” Or is the word of God literally hidden within your heart? Let’s not only read, but let’s memorize the Bible as well.What changes can you make to become more effective at treasuring up the Scripture?
