Proverbs 1:29-31 (ESV)

29 Because they hated knowledge

and did not choose the fear of the Lord,

30 would have none of my counsel

and despised all my reproof,

31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,

and have their fill of their own devices.

Wisdom stresses the reason that judgment comes. The fools did not fear the Lord. By rejecting wisdom, they rejected God as well. “Hating,” “choosing,” and “despising” imply something willfully done.Wisdom reminds her audience that there is nothing unfair about judgment. The fools received exactly what they wanted. They longed to live according to their own desires: without wisdom and without God. In the end, they will get what they yearned for: eternity without wisdom and shut out from the presence of the Lord. Those who push God out of their lives choose to do so. Many will irrationally try to live without wisdom in just some areas of life. But God desires to rule over our whole person and not just part. Are there any aspects of your life that you don’t want God “messing with”? If so, repent and allow him to be the Lord over all that you think and do.
