Proverbs 1:24-26 (ESV)
24 Because I have called and you refused to listen,
have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
25 because you have ignored all my counsel
and would have none of my reproof,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when terror strikes you,
Though wisdom passionately desires a genuine listening audience, she is ignored. And consequences result. Her words of advice are disregarded by the naïve. She attemps to reason with the foolish and gullible, but they make no effort to even save their own lives. Because of this, she will laugh when what she warned about comes to pass. She will see and say to herself, “I told you, but you did not listen.” The calamity and terror will come suddenly and unexpected, though the fool should know better. The Bible clearly instructs us in how to live wisely. If we ignore Scripture’s warning by mistreating our physical bodies, abusing our finances, neglecting relationships, tolerating greed and selfishness, or even spurning opportunities to know and serve the Lord, we will experience regrets. If you died right now, what would you wish you had done differently? Why not make the change today?
