Proverbs 3:30-32 (ESV)

30 Do not contend with a man for no reason,

when he has done you no harm.

31 Do not envy a man of violence

and do not choose any of his ways,

32 for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord,

but the upright are in his confidence.

The godly person will not fabricate a grievance with those around her for attention or personal gain. The wise should never long for what the wicked person has. Although the ungodly may experience temporary pleasure and ease, the righteous person is not to covet the life of the evil man. God hates the ways of the wicked. The Lord sees all and distinguishes between the good and the evil neighbors. The evil neighbor seeks to harm, while the good neighbor experiences God’s wisdom and is always ready to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. If you live around ungodly people, who may even seem to have all the perks in life, don’t envy them. One day they will be shut out from the presence of God forever. If your heart is aching for what others have, take a mental step back and get your perspective right today.
