Proverbs 5:15-17 (ESV)
15 Drink water from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
16 Should your springs be scattered abroad,
streams of water in the streets?
17 Let them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
Instead of going to the forbidden woman, the father exhorts his son to satisfy his sexual thirst by drinking water from his own cistern, or going to his own wife for pleasure. A cistern, or a well for storing rainwater, was a prized and privately owned possession. The son should view his wife with high regard and turn to her alone for sexual gratification. This one flesh relationship was to occur solely between the husband and his wife. Are you single today? If so, wait until you are married to become sexually active. Are you married today? If so, no matter how tired, bored, or even disappointed you are with your spouse, keep your sexual relationship alive. Those who are married should do whatever they can to be sexually active. Plan time for sex with your spouse, think about sex with your spouse, and thoroughly enjoy the sexual aspect of your relationship with your spouse.
