Proverbs 4:23-24 (ESV)

23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,

for from it flow the springs of life.

24 Put away from you crooked speech,

and put devious talk far from you.

The heart must be carefully guarded. What we do is motivated by our desires, so if we keep our hearts in check, our behavior will also be right. In fact, the direction of our lives is determined by the condition of our hearts. Along with the heart, the mouth must be kept under guard. Our speech betrays the state of our inner person. If one seeks wisdom, she must do away with lying, deceptive, insensitive, and even harmful words. Jesus said, “What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.”What words have been coming out of your mouth lately? Are they honest, encouraging, and loving? Or have they been deceitful, critical, and mean? Determine to speak in a way consistent with wisdom. The woman who chooses to do this will end up refining not only her words, but her heart as well.

Thank you! I need to work on my words, but more so keep working and keeping tabs on my heart. What an important and needed reminder to start the day with.
