Proverbs 4:17-19 (ESV)

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness

and drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,

which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

19 The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;

they do not know over what they stumble.

Wickedness is normal for those who do evil. Violence results as evildoers seek to increase in pleasure and wealth. Their gain comes at the expense of others. Their hearts are hardened by sin. The wicked live in darkness and can’t even find their way out. They fail to see the connection between their sin and its consequences in their lives. They don’t believe their disobedience will result in eternal death. What a sad state for those who reject God’s wisdom. But what hope for those who follow the Lord! While darkness reigns over evildoers, the light grows daily for those whose goal is Jesus. Soon we will be face to face with the one who loves us more than we could ever think or imagine. May our separation from darkness be more evident today than ever before. Let’s determine to avoid sin at all costs, focusing our minds on that which is right and pure.
