Proverbs 30:32-33 (ESV)
32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself,
or if you have been devising evil,
put your hand on your mouth.
33 For pressing milk produces curds,
pressing the nose produces blood,
and pressing anger produces strife.
The one who plots to disrupt the existing social structure by putting another down and promoting himself should stop and cease from his scheme. In fact, he should commit to absolute silence regarding his foolish agenda, even putting his hand on his mouth to keep himself from unwise speech. Just as milk is churned to produce butter, so foolish, self-seeking behavior stirs up the community. When force is applied to the nose, bleeding results, and so pressure in any situation causes a breaking point. Agur cautions the prideful upstart to resist his desire to exalt himself as the community is intolerant of the one bent on boasting. Is there an area where you feel slighted, believing those in authority are ripping you off? Make sure your assessment is accurate by seeking the Scripture and advice of godly counselors before you begin your next self- promoting campaign. Otherwise, general discord and personal shame may result.
